Data Centers and Autonomous Vehicles are Driving Computing Trends

Abstract: In the first half of this talk, an overview of the two main driving forces behind these new trends namely Data Centers and Autonomous Vehicles are given.  Machine Learning (ML) is at the core of the development of these two technologies. The emergence of ML as a new source of innovation for computer architecture has been recognized. Some of the key computer design trends for handling ML algorithms are discussed.   Comparisons are made with previous efforts to design high performance and low power computing nodes.  In the second half of the talk, some of the related topics that we have been focusing on are presented.
